In 1988, Earth time, seven alien species allied themselves to invade Earth. They discovered that humans have a latent capacity to become super beings and because of that Earth was considered a planetary threat. At that time, the Green Lantern Corps was weakened and the few still active Green Lanterns were killed and the battery destroyed. Australia was the first country to fall and from there the alien forces launched their assault. No one was spared, not even the Atlanteans. Earth seemed ready to fall when Superman arranged a cease fire with the Alien Leaders of the Alliance. Earth Heroes broke the cease fire and the six Daxamites engaged and subdued Superman. The Dominion knew how to neutralize Superman because they knew he was Kryptonian. Even without Superman, Earth Heroes engaged the invading alien armada. The Dominion decided to end the war detonating the Gene Bomb. All human heroes with powers lost control of their powers and then went into a coma. After that Earth surrended to the invading forces and the aliens took control of the planet. The surviving humans were kept alive to work for the aliens, the ones that did not agree with that were killed. The Dominion and the Psions built laboratories where they could use some comatose Super Heroes and other humans to study the meta gene. The U.S. government managed to hide some Super Heroes in a secret base where human scientist try to find a cure for the effects of the gene bomb. Meanwhile, the heroes that are still able to fight or did not die during the invasion resist the alien forces the best way they can.
